Pupil Premium is whereby additional funding is given to schools to raise attainment of “disadvantaged pupils” and close the gap with their peers.
Pupils who qualify for PP are those who:
- have been eligible for free school meals in the past 6 years
- been in care for 6 months or longer
At the moment, the support for secondary pupils is around £900 each. Schools determine how to spend this funding, so I would inquire about putting in a bid to support Pupil Premiums in D&T as well.
When monitoring your pupils’ progress, ensure you specifically track your PPs and have strategies in place to ensure their progress catches up with their peers.
